The Indian Tabla is a drum similar to, but also somehow different to the drums we are used to.
You have probably already seen a drum set. If not, music videos of bands that we see on television have probably taken care of this problem. When we see a musical instrument that is very popularly used in the music industry today, like the drums, we tend to fail to wonder if there are other types than the one we are used to seeing and watching.
But alas, there is other types of drums than that we so commonly see nowadays. In fact, some of these other drums are associated with a country that had somehow made it popular or where it originates from. An example of this is the Indian drum.
Getting acquainted with the Tabla
You might be intrigued by how it is named, but the word really just simply means drum. It comes from the Arabic word tabla for drum. It is a percussion instrument that is more popularly associated with India because it has always been used in the classical, religious and other types of music of the country.
In India, it is the most popular percussion instrument. And indeed, it comes as o surprise, for it can create lovely jazz or blues music. When I see these drums, I am also reminded of reggae music, for they have the look that most people would associate with reggae.
